About me

Reformed accountant, lawyer, international professional service manager, international speaker and author.

Now a website author and developer, educational consultant, and teacher.

A teacher with deep business and management experience

A late vocation teacher, I have previously worked for over two decades in professional and senior management roles in leading legal and professional services firms in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom (Price Waterhouse, Mallesons, Linklaters, Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University). In 2004, I wrote a book published by Oxford University Press (New York, 2004) related to knowledge management and law firms. I was frequently published in journals and a frequent conference speaker on law firm management, knowledge management and technology in the US, UK and Australia.

Since transitioning to secondary teaching, I have applied my prior knowledge and experience and deep technology skills to build a range of creative resources and approaches influencing my teaching, my faculty, and the teaching in other classrooms at Riverview and in other schools in the state.

Importantly, this has required the development of new competencies and skills in different toolsets directed towards productivity and student learning. I am a lifelong learner, am adept at learning new technologies and engaging with non technology teaching approaches. I can design and program technology resources (build websites, simulators, screencasts, online learning modules, webapps etc).

Contribution and engagement with sector and professional development

Since entering the profession in 2011, I have been an invited keynote speaker on economics and business studies pedagogy at annual conferences of EBE, AIS and Tim Riley’s Economics Literacy Centre. Feedback from those sessions was extremely favourable, including:

Workshop on pedagogy in Year 12 Economics at Tim Riley's Economic Literacy Centre 2015

Thank you for your excellent presentation … The feedback received from teachers was very positive as they found your presentation to be quite amazing, dynamic, creative and interactive. Many teachers indicated they would sign up for your website. You provided some excellent resources and teaching strategies that are very relevant to economics students, especially those that are visual learners. You made economics teaching and learning fun for those involved including the conference participants. Tim Riley, Convenor

Conference presentation with Matt Robertson on pedagogy in Year 12 Business Studies at the AIS Business Studies teachers annual PD conference 2015

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for presenting such a brilliant workshop at the recent AIS Business Studies and Economics Conference at Barker. The feedback from your session with Matthew was very positive. I know that Len was extremely grateful to have you share your wisdom with the group and to provide them with concrete strategies in the teaching of Business Visual literacy. I hope that you will consider presenting again for us in the near future. Carlo Tuttocoure AIS NSW

I have delivered multiple professional development workshops to teachers at St Ignatius' College as part of staff PD days. I have also developed online learning modules, apps, infographics, project based learning tasks and research tools. Amongst other things, I have authored and developed a leading innovative subscription website resource for year 11 and 12 Economics (http://hsceco.com.au), used by teachers and students in over 60 schools across private, public, country and city contexts.

Leadership and team management experience

My previous professional career includes successfully building and leading high performing teams and managing significant budgets ($5m+) in other leading organisations. This includes leading smaller single teams (12 head count) and multiple country dispersed teams in matrix reporting structures (100+ people). Developing vision, building aligned cultures and high performing teams with a focus on innovation, creativity and collaboration has characterised my professional life. My staff have often gone on to roles of increased responsibility and influence.
